Jim,
I got my "new style" exhaust system from Vern a little over a year ago.
I was the first customer (guinea pig) for the new design of exhaust for the
ES
IO550. The new design has expanding diameter pipes with a relatively long
extension
that is bent downward near the end. It also incorporated two heat muffs, the
one on
the copilot side being quite short because of limited space. It fit quite
well ( I did have to modify some of the hangers), so there was some room for improvement.
I know the supplier was working with Carsten in that area.
Carsten tells me that the new design should eliminate the popping. I haven't
flown yet (although have be now) because of work commitments-good excuse.
However C-GFNG, being built in Dallas (confusing isn't it) should fly soon.

BTW, in the great white north, the "standard" circuit (pattern to our
American friends) entry is to fly overhead the field and join at mid
downwind,
especially at uncontrolled airports.
