Ron,

Q--1- You mentioned 6 months for certification, what would be a realistic time frame for me to actually get one.  I'm building an ES, and am about ready to order the engine, but I'm about 10-12 months from flying.
A--Good question.  I only have info from the engineering side.  How the FADEC engines are marketed is anyone's guess right now.  My guess, for what it's worth, is 12 months until you could take delivery if you were first on the list.  All 550 engines are currently being built with the internal hardware to allow it to be converted to FADEC without a complete disassembly of the engine.  For a conversion the big job will be removing the oil pan to mount the speed sensor.

Q--2- Is there a cost estimate yet, compared to the IO-550?
A--I don't have any firm numbers, marketing again!  I estimate $7,000 over the current IO-550.  The retrofit kit will sell for $10-11K.  So waiting for a factory FADEC will be a smart move.  This is because the parts removed from the IO offset the total cost.

ERic--
