Brent,
QCELL and flox are not substitutes for each other. QCELL, also know as micro
or microballoons is mixed with resin to form a very lightweight, easily
sandable buildup. You would use it to form fillets or fill in holes in foam
or fill gaps between foam core blocks, etc. QCELL is not structural.
Flox is chopped cotton fiber, and when mixed with resin forms a very strong,
load-bearing structure. It is difficult to sand once cured, but is very
strong. Joints made with flox are like welds. The chopped cotton fibers are
fairly benign, but will form dust and suspend in the air you're breathing if
you stir them up..
Milled fibers are chopped fiberglass strands, and are also very strong when
mixed with resin. Milled fiber tends to be nasty to work with unless you are
careful about agitating it -- the fibers are easily suspended in the air if
you agitate them, and they will get into your eyes and skin with a vengeance
if you are careless.

Larry Graves
