What current is required to run fuel pump and ignition coils? Would like to know for sizing backup alternator. A--The fuel pump is the same as the current mechanical pump with the mixture lever removed. FADEC only requires an airframe electronic pump for starting. Most likely it will be the same as the Dukes pumps your using now. The FADEC system uses 3-4 amps with a 5 amp max. I recommend a small battery as the secondary back-up. A second alternator will draw power from the engine all the time. And it must be dedicated to FADEC back-up only. Hopefully you'll never need it! Q--2. Are engine guages (i.e. vision VM1000) required anymore with the "health indicator"? A--The Health Status Annunciator, HSA, is more like lights on you car dash. It only lights to show when FADEC is doing a certain task or a fault is detected. It does not have any read-outs. The Engine Power Display, EPD, can replace the engine gauges. It will be an additional option. It displays all the information FADEC is reading; CHTs, EGTs, MAP, MAT, RPM, Fuel Flow, Percent Power, etc.. It's development is behind the main systems and will not be available on a certified basis for awhile. Q--3. If the FADEC controls the propellor with an electronic governor, what would be its propeller speed mapping for cruise, climb, etc? For example 2700 climb, 2500 cruise @ ROP or LOP, etc. A-- The prop speed will be a function of the throttle position. The map will be configurable for each installation.
