I, too, am interested in when the FADEC will be ready for the IO-550. For exptl use, we don't need certification, so .... ? How will the FADEC unit handle LOP operation, which is one of the nice features of the IO-550? I was pretty happy with my last one (ES #1), but I never did quite figure out the routine for jiggering the mixture in a long descent, with a flipover to ROP operation at some point down low. I also wonder how the FADEC algorithms will be built to handle these sorts of things. Exhaust system as supplied by Lancair for the ES in '96 was awful. It was too small in diameter right through, was not graduated in size as each cylinder came in to the "logs", and the short pipes made for horrendous cockpit noise and excessive detonation ("popping off", we used to call it, in 'fifties hot rods) in the pipes at low speed/rich mix, e.g., when in the pattern. I had a properly sized system built by Dawley Aviation, but with short pipes it also popped occasionally. [Long story, but early on I had longer pipes that I had planned to run into a muffler hung in the midline -- gave it up.] Anyway, I notice that Cirrus are using an extended exhaust pipe, which they claim gives a bit of a performance boost, and probably reduces cockpit noise, too. Any thoughts on this? Is TCM working on the exhaust end at all? Jim Cameron, ES #2 in progress. [P.S. Anyone seen a recent version of the ES exhaust supplied by Lancair? I'm wondering if it's still the same, too-small system.] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LML website: http://www.olsusa.com/Users/Mkaye/maillist.html LML Builders' Bookstore: http://www.buildersbooks.com/lancair Please send your photos and drawings to marvkaye@olsusa.com. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
