To John Barrett and all concerned, I spoke to Mark at Lancair and he denies
ever recommending any other than the book location for the static ports.  He
did say that they could be moved just a bit so they will be under the
"elephant butt" and not in the baggage compartment, where thrown bags might
cause damage.
I have installed my ports (from AC Spruce) and plan to run the tubing up
high in the overhead before the "tee" fitting leading forward.  Hopefully
they will be self draining this way.  By the way, who sells static port
plugs with red flags?  Those pesky summer bugs up in Minnesota and Wisconsin
do love to plug static ports.
