Rather, I used a Whitey/Swagelok 3000 PSI, nuclear grade, stainless steel valve designed for instrumentation shutoff. (That was probably overkill, but it didn't weigh any more than the 150 PSI valve that came with the kit.) The dump valve wasn't leaking through before I broke into the system, so I would be surprised if it chose this particular time to fail. Also, when I open it to drop the gear, I can hear fluid and air surging through the lines. I'm on hold now waiting for more fluid, but I'll put the dump valve on my list of things to check if the more likely culprits don't pan out. I'm thinking of installing automotive brake bleed valves out in the wheel wells. More overkill? Bill--

I never installed the 150PSI piece-of-crap ball valve that came with the kit.

Thanks for the suggestion on the dump valve --

John,

Sounds like a possibility of a bad/leaking dump valve. Several of us changed out the original valve for a higher pressure rated one several years ago. Sorry that I can’t remember where the new valve came from but I’ll bet that someone here does.
