My 90's-era pump frequently locked-up shortly after landing, becoming unresponsive to gear retract. Incredibly, shortly after landing, enough pressure built up in the high pressure circuit to open the high pressure switch, preventing retract. The only way to free it was to open a fitting to release pressure. I returned the pump to Oildyne at least three times: the first time, I had the 'backpressure relief' installed, which did not correct the lock up. I returned it a second time, telling them about the lock-up. They 'bench-checked' and returned it, telling me there was no problem; but -of course- it continued locking up.The third time I told them "don't bench check it, just rebuild it"! They did so and, of course, it continued to lock up. From what I've read over the years, I suspect at least one-half of the older pumps had that problem.
