Since I financed my kit, construction insurance was not an option. I contacted Zanette Aircraft Insurance Center in San Carlos, CA. (I believe Brent Regan recently mentioned that he used Zanette as well.) They shopped for me and found a policy for $100K of coverage for $500 a year. That's HALF of Avemco's premium. At renewal time, I'll up the coverage for the increased value of my project, but I expect the premium will still be around half the cost of using Avemco. When it comes time to fly, I'll let them shop that policy for me as well. I'd heard Avemco was pretty expensive and it appears that's a well deserved reputation. Zanette's toll free number is 888-723-3358 for anyone interested.
