Jim,

AFAIUI, the engine number will tell you. For instance, I have a Lycoming IO-320-B1A and the B1A means it is a type 2 Dynafocal.

I also think the type 2 is pretty rare. It was only used on aircraft with extended props, such as the Twin Comanche.

I had no takers on how to do this so I called Mike Snow of Snowline and ask that he send the two mount rings to me so I can determine with absolute certainty which I have with this engine.

Subject: [LML] Angle

Who knows how to measure the angle of the mounts on a dynafocal mount?
There are two types as you know.

1)    Type 1 is 30º

2)   Type 2 is 18º

It sounds like an easy thing. OK it might be. But before I spend a heap of money on a mount, I’d like to know for certain how to measure the angle correctly.

Jim
