I would like to add a small caution to this thread.

Cycling the gear on jacks in the hanger does NOT prove the gear will drop and lock when flying.

In addition to replacing the nose gear gas cylinder every annual,  I try to conduct the airborne test once a month.  Cheap insurance, especially for those who don't have insurance.

Great post Lynn….another check that Charlie taught me was to give the emergency pump lever a good pull to double check the system is down and locked during final approach….if its stiff you can be sure the hydraulic lines have pressure or (hopefully) the gear down and locked.  Also, the last annual I checked the free fall and pumped the mains down…for those who haven’t done this it gives you a good experience of what is involved so when (if) you need to do it you’re more familiar.
