HI THERE

i have 180 Lancair 4 hours in the last 14 months.

AND
i never forget;  flying the 4P is like the responsibility of a loaded gun

WHEN
Taking off, steering and speed have my undivided attention.
i fly from bigger airports and rotate at 85knots

AND
in the pattern, i am never, never ever,  below 120 knots and if in a turn i consider it an imperative that the turn is coordinated, the ball is centered.

AND
on landing i am 120 knots until short final and then 100 knots across the "fence"

THIS IS MY LANCAIR RELIGION,
i do not prey, i obey,

AND
i love my 4P and wear it like a glove and make smooth transitions from 270knots in descent to 140knots down wind.
    and fly hard IFR

BUT
like all aviation, flying is unforgiving of inattention and carelessness

UNIQUE
the Lancair difference is things happen more rapidly then we are used to from our training and experience in other GA airplanes

Lancairs are more dangerous than planes like 172's because of how unforgiving they become when errantly flown outside of their envelope. IMHO, most accidents occur after a sequence of mistakes by a fallible pilot that ends with departing the safe envelope. In a 172, recovery is easier - in Lancairs, not necessarily so. Flying our high performance unforgiving airplanes does take a level of diligence that is above what many pilots I know possess. Training is critical. But even more important is not making mistakes on a routine basis that can cascade into catastrophe. We fly high performance unforgiving aircraft that are inherently dangerous relative to most other planes. We need to constantly remind ourselves of that and treat every flight, no matter how benign, accordingly.
