I concur with you Colyn,

The LML that came out of the "fast packets" conceived and organized by Jim Franz years ago has continued to be a priceless forum for Lancair community members to share.  Marv taking over this idea and successfully bringing it on line has provided huge benefits for us all.

On the other hand this is in no way an official organization that can bind us together to act as a group to interface with political, governmental and other groups.  LOBO provides that function and we are in a time when that particular function is greatly needed.

Hats off to both Marv and to the founders of LOBO.  we should be supporting both.

John

Peter,

It's wonderful you contributed to LML.  It is indeed a great asset.    I hadn't read your letter to Marv carefully on the first pass but I think you are misinformed if you think that LOBO offers not much.   Although I'm no longer on the board of LOBO, and cannot speak officially for LOBO,  I can say that being on the board briefly only gave me more appreciation for the founders of LOBO and all they do.   Each of them puts in many hundreds of hours per year on your behalf.

For those that are not aware, here are some of the activities of LOBO:
- created a comprehensive training syllabus and assisted instructors to be able to deliver that syllabus.
- provided a newsletter with useful articles
- lobbied with the FAA on several initiatives including the current second pilot initiative
- lobbied with the insurance industry to maintain and improve availability of coverage to Lancair owners
- maintained relationships with EAA, NTSB
- reached out to new owners to help them get connected with available resources, and answer questions
- organized the annual Oshkosh dinner event
- organized the annual "Landing" gathering
- provided ground school at the "Landing"
- organized the 2014 event in Mobile, AL at Continental headquarters
- answers numerous phone calls and emails you never see
- other stuff I've forgotten that hopefully someone else will add to this thread.

Expenses for doing all of the above have largely been born by the LOBO board members themselves.

A couple expenses you should consider carefully:   1) your annual insurance premium 2) the resale value of your aircraft.   Both of these would improve dramatically if the Lancair safety record were correspondingly improved.   LOBO was founded to improve safety.  It needs the best efforts of all its members toward that end, and yes it's going to take some money.   However, if I were to save $3000 in one year on my insurance premium, that would pay my LOBO dues for 60 years.   Seems like a worthwhile investment to me.

I hope all will consider joining LOBO, giving some extra money, and, more importantly, helping out.  There is so much to do.

Colyn

actually, although Marv doesn't push very hard on this, I think the suggested donation is $50 per year.

hi there

i have donated to LML

this site does not just happen; it happens because of Marv's dedication to our LML

i urge you to make a donation; i gave $50.00 but if you gave $5.00 it would help and show appreciation,

it is a wonderful asset; great people, great info and generally a "go to" source. i have gotten much help that is just not available anywhere else.

peter

here is my note to Marv

Marv

thank you for your efforts without you there would be no LML

i have donated $50.00

it is a bargain; when one considers what LOBO costs and relatively how little it offers compared to LML
