Doug,

I put gap seals on my 4P – I think I saw an improvement of about 2 kts. My airspeed varies a lot with humidity temperature and other thing that I don’t know. Last week when I ran rich of peak I could see 200kts IAS at 23000 at -7F

Earlier in the year I was complaining about losing the gap seals when I get too far into the yellow arc or close to red line. I claimed that gap seals do not hold up on speeds that high. I lost one every 20 hrs or so.

I have to take this back. I got an additional hint from Fred Moreno that significantly improved the life time of my gap seals: Make sure that all surfaces are 100% clean and fat free – I used aceton – then the important part: use a heat gun to completely dry out all the solvent from the pores before applying the seals – this was the part that I didn’t do and that made a difference – the solvent might be still there even if it looks dry.

I have been interested in how much extra speed I can get out of my Legacy using gap seals and other similar aerodynamic “tricks”.

Today I ran the plane in the “Before” condition.  Tomorrow, I intend to put on gap seals and change out my cowl rings to a more aerodynamic pair.

Here is today’s result:

Any bets on the improvement with gap seals, etc?  I am guessing 4 knots.
