some people take a flat piece of plastic (e.g. modern cutting board) and use it to form a guide (like a funnel) for the drain oil to leave the area.

Mike Mahar in Ohio will modify your oil drain nut with this 45 degree spout that gets around the interference – see photo below.

But, if there’s a good, easy way to cleanly get the oil out without going to all this trouble, we’d go that path rather than get our engine off its mounts to screw the modified oil drain nut on…
