The computers via ECAM etc were going to look after everything. It was then thought that didn=92t give the boys at the sharp end much to = do, so they thought,=94better give these numb nuts (cerebrally speaking) = something to do to make it look like they are actually required=94 So the Checklist was extended with extraneous stuff. But, my Lancair doesn=92t have ECAM. I NEED a checklist. Not for = extended post T/O ops, but for Pre-Start and Pre T/O vital actions. Then = I chuck it out and use memory because the extraneous stuff isn=92t = necessary. The most critical point for a serious problem is from the start of the = T/O roll to 1500 feet. After that I=92ve got room to manoeuvre to at = least some degree. Anecdote: I am reminded of a day some forty years ago, as a B727 F/O = flying with a serious Check Captain, and being give a 350 kt descent = with a requirement to hold the speed as long as possible to join final = from a close base. He to whom I showed kowtowing respect was flying, a beautiful clear day, = landed, turned off the high speed taxiway, and called for after landing = checklist, which elicited the response from the Flight Engineer: =93Sir, = would you like the descent and pre-landing checklists first?=94 Dom VH-CZJ Dominic V.
