Comment from the wild side:  And if, like me, you want to figure it out for yourself, consider practicing aloft doing whatever you would do for an engine-out pattern and noting the altitude loss, then you can move your practice gradually down to ground level.

 

PS -- I'm an instructor, but I've always liked to test my own theories and then bring my results to other experienced guys (mostly instructors) for confirmation/correction and greater insight.
