Colyn,

I do include MS Office in the "real business programs" realm but also
RMS FlightSoft, CAM350 (to read printed circuit files), Solidworks 3D to
read blueprints, Quickbooks (checking on customers product use over
time), Rosetta Stone to advance in another language, and a host of
smaller tools.  I cannot get these programs in Android or Apple talk.  With all these programs on a real PC I would require only 1 device on my
trips.  With the iPad-bound Foreflight I require 2 devices.  I have just learned that there are tablets out there that will run a
full version of Windows 8 (which I dislike but am learning to tolerate)
so perhaps soon I will have a better option with a PC-compatible
inflight suite.  Hopefully before I am too old to fly!

Robert,  I'm not sure what you mean by "real business programs".   Maybe
you mean microsoft apps.

Personally, I ditched my pc in 2010, the day I left my day job.     I
will never go back.   The main feature missing from PC's is the "it
works" feature.   I don't have a data point on Android yet but the fact
that it has to support so many different hardware platforms will make it
far more difficult than Apple's problem.

I bought the biggest/baddest version  iPad 3 the day they launched.  The main reason was Foreflight who refuses to write code for Android and
for PCs. Today, after months of frustration trying to make the Apple run real
business programs, I have given up.  I take the iPad when traveling to get my e-mail and use Foreflight
enroute.  Otherwise it is just a glitzy toy.  I would sell it in a minute if: 1.) Foreflight would write for Android or a PC tablet or
2.) an Android/PC compatible alternative with equivalent features were
to become available.

Fred,

Have you considered an Android? Specifically the ASUS eeePad Transformer
TF201?

Big processor, 8 hours battery (18 with keypad), conventional keyboard,
USB port, super bright 600 nit display, NOT an Apple.
