While I enjoyed greatly the features provided by Foreflight, and purchased a
subscription two years running, I didn't like Apple's "purchase a new iPad
every year" plan. Each year Apple comes out with a new device, and a new
version of iOS for the new device. When my iPad1 updated to the new iOS (and
you really don't have a choice), my iPad's speed would drop to approximately
half of what it had been before.
I first asked, then begged Foreflight to make an Android version of their
software. They told me on several occasions that they had no interest and no
intent to ever produce an Android version.
So, while it is not as far down the development path, I purchased the Garmin
software and run it on a Google Nexus 10 tablet. Garmin's software might or
might not satisfy your needs, but I primarily use such software for flight
planning and checking weather. I never use it for in-flight navigation as I
have sufficient gear in the aircraft for that.

I bought the biggest/baddest version iPad 3 the day they launched. The main reason was Foreflight who refuses to write code for Android and for
PCs. Today, after months of frustration trying to make the Apple run real
business programs, I have given up. I take the iPad when traveling to get my e-mail and use Foreflight enroute.
Otherwise it is just a glitzy toy. I would sell it in a minute if: 1.) Foreflight would write for Android or a PC tablet or
2.) an Android/PC compatible alternative with equivalent features were to
become available.

Fred,
Have you considered an Android? Specifically the ASUS eeePad Transformer
TF201?

Big processor, 8 hours battery (18 with keypad), conventional keyboard, USB
port, super bright 600 nit display, NOT an Apple.
