My approach was to double-nut the shaft with AN315-3's, followed by an AN960 washer and a sealing washer made from fibered gasket material inside the tank. On the outside, another sealing washer with a bit of Permatex #2, an AN960 washer, then an AN365 locknut. The inner assembly was adjusted so the the tank bottom is slightly lifted when the pump head is installed. The biggest problem was that the mounting collar had been distorted when it was welded and had to be rounded out so the pump flange could go in.

I tried o-rings at first but they squeezed out when compressed. Full disclosure: I haven't filled the tank yet. -Bill Wade

I agree with John on the IV hydraulic reservoir configuration. I removed the rod that attaches the pump to the bottom of the tank and plugged this hole with a short bolt and sealing washers. I made a split circular clamp out of 1/2" Delrin that clamps around the neck of the reservoir and used small bolts to attach the pump base to this clamp. Has worked like a champ for 6+ years; no leaks at all.
