I built 2 jacks using: Older style short car jack stand plus a bottle jack welded to fla= t plate of jack stand. 2 each. Old jack stands can be found at thrift sto= res or used tool places=2C or your garage if you're over 60. The older style jack stand has 3 legs and a top that needs to be = pounded out flat. To that place on it an appropriately sized hydraulic bo= ttle jack (Harbor Freight)=3B I drilled one hole for a nut and bolt and th= en welded most of the perimiter. Also weld the up-down adjustment and pin = in the stand (the pin still takes the vertical compressive load=2C so welds= are just keeping the "height" of the jack stand constant.) The top of the jack can be dremeled out to receive the pointy co= ne of the common jack point from Lancair (used on Mooneys too I think). When under the center of the ac=2C both jacks can be jacked at t= he same time for a level rise. =20 Tail is supported on a wood cradle that is held down with 3 sand= bags or grain bags of 30-40 pounds each=2C and a strap wraps around the em= pennage just forward of the horizonal that is fixed to the wood cradle. (= Some put them on the horizontal stabilizer=3B not so good.) THEN place 2 "safety" carpenter horses under the wings at a rib = that is padded (and I also contoured the top board to match the bottom cont= our of the wing). Usually=2C I then lower the jacks slightly to have pa= rtial normal force on to the safety horses. VERY STABLE! Climb in and o= ut all you want. Since my plane has a lot of yellow.... I cleaned the jack st= and and bottle jack and sprayed it ... yellow. Nice to grind out the C- w= elds before painting. I've used this simple and cheap system a dozen times now. On= ly spent $8 for the one lacking bottle jack. They have become indispensabl= e.=20 Next trip to hangar I'll take a picture and forward it.
