Hi Folks..

I'm looking for some of your expertise....

On the last couple flights the oil temp was intermittent on the Garmin G3X screen. Its to a point now where it just shows a big red X.  We took the cowl off and noticed that part of the wire was rubbing and it was perhaps grounding out.  We took an old EGT probe (which we tested as working) and hooked it up to see if we would get a temperature on the G3X, however when we hooked it up the red X went away for about 1 second only to return.  Someone suggested that the EGT probe reads temps from probably 0 - 1500 or so and the oil only from 0 - 300 perhaps.... so the G3X screen may not be able to interpret the signal.

Anyhow... so we're at a point where we're wondering if it is a faulty oil probe or what your thoughts may be?  Could the oil temp probe be damaged by grounding out?

Thanks,

-Dico
