The resin should be good for many, many years.  The hardener will expire relatively soon.

I’m using resin that is 15 years old without any problems.  When I talked to Lancair technical support, they (Ross) told me to do a test layup and check it, but he expected my resin to be fine.  I haven’t run into any problems.

If the resin is separated, just heat it up until it dissolves back.  This is an issue when it gets cold and does not indicate that it has “expired.”  This is a common problem with various epoxy resins.

This is a common problem and the "sludge" is crystalized resin.  If you heat it up slowly and stir it will go back into solution and is useable.  Make sure you get all the little bits dissolved.  It really makes a mess when you try and smooth it out onto a BID when there are little rocks of resin in the mix.  I would check the expiration date, but it is has most likely expired.  I think this tends to happen on older resin, and you probably only want to use it only on "non critical" parts.   It also helps to keep the resin in a warm box - especially with winter coming.  If you keep it around 75-80, it should stay in solution.

Has anyone ever experienced this phenomenon? Resin was purchased in '06.

This resin has somehow managed to separate and heavy opaque sludge has accumulated at the bottom of the 1qt Michaels pump container.
