Russell,

I have been flying all over Europe for the past 25 years, and have never heard of 95LL.  It's either 100LL or nothing.   What country is your buyer from?

Is anybody running 95 low lead in their continental IO-550 engine? I have a European buyer for my legacy and he wants to run this fuel.

What is the difference in the timing settings to avoid detonation?

Russell,

I don’t have a good contact at Continental to ask about this, but if you’re going to Oshkosh, the experts to ask will be there. Also, George Braly, gwbraly@gami.com; or Tim Roehl, troehl@gami.com, at GAMI, www.gami.com, would have reliable answers on this.

The generally held wisdom is that the big-bore Continentals won’t survive long on less than 100 octane fuel, but the GAMI folks have done extensive testing on this specific issue and would provide reliable/dependable answers. Again, OSH is a good place to catch them later this month.
