Is anybody running 95 low lead in their continental IO-550 engine? I have a European buyer for my legacy and he wants to run this fuel.
What is the difference in the timing settings to avoid detonation?
Russell,
I don’t have a good contact at Continental to ask about this, but if you’re going to Oshkosh, the experts to
ask will be there. Also, George Braly, gwbraly@gami.com; or Tim Roehl,
troehl@gami.com,
at GAMI,
www.gami.com, would have reliable answers on this.
The generally held wisdom is that the big-bore Continentals won’t survive long on less than 100 octane fuel,
but the GAMI folks have done extensive testing on this specific issue and would provide reliable/dependable answers. Again, OSH is a good place to catch them later this month.
