BFI is significantly closer to the UW than PAE and the land traffic from Everett can be really tough. I fly into BFI from YKM (101 miles SE) a couple of times a month, but do so IFR. The airspace is complicated if you go VFR, but I have heard folks tell the controllers they are not familiar and they are hand held to the runways. The controllers are familiar with our planes (IVPs) as at least 3 of us fly in there on a regular basis. Just tell them you want the long runway although the east runway (the short one) is 3700 feet long. Decide on an FBO before landing because Alpha taxiway is under construction and it is used for the 3 major FBOs on the field. The FBOs are accommodating and make any necessary arrangements you need. Cab rides will cost you less than renting a car in Everett and paying for parking, which is at a premium in the University district. Also, you have a chance to see all the Boeing planes, military, war birds, experimentals, biz jets, etc at BFI plus the departure or arrival from the north past downtown is very scenic.
