In fact all the commuter aircraft I flew used a vacuum driven backup horizon and DG which was powered off of suction from the engine. The worlds largest cargo airplane I flew also had vacuum backup. We don't all have the ability or $$$$$$ to install backups to the backups and carry around useless weight disguised as emergency batteries, when a simple vacuum pump works quite well with limitations, and has for years, including since the 30's.
