Now you're gettin somewhere Bill. I put two identical B&C 12AH batteries in mine. Each has its own contactor to connect to its respective bus (Bat A powers main bus, Bat B powers essential bus). A third contactor (big master relay) acts as a bus tie so that in normal operations both batteries power both busses, both batteries start the engine and both batteries are charged by the alternator. When the low voltage annunciator lights up, a flip of a switch unpowers the bus tie contactor thereby seperating the system into two completely seperate bus/battery systems. The essential bus/B battery system now has absoutely no connection to the alternator anymore. A 10 or 12 AH battery is a lot of weight to haul around for use only in an emergency. This system makes it earn its keep while waiting for the emergency. As per Bob Nuckols suggestion, I plan to replace one of the batteries each annual. No diodes, no problems. Waddayatink?
