One could choose many criteria and scenerios. If you have a split vacuum/electric system (or an all electric system) and primary electrical power fails, you would not want to hastily land in "timbucktwo", but would most likely continue flying to your destination (or an airport capable of repairs), possibly as long as two or three hours. I didn't mention yesterday that a radio draws very little current in the receive mode and could well be connected to the backup system. Garmin states that my GPS 150XL has a built-in battery with four hours capacity. My estimate of 30 A-H might be too liberal and my previous 12 A-H Concorde might be sufficient for my two to three hour criteria.
