Angier,
When I started my new engine after several years of storage, I used mineral oil to the dipstick full mark, filled the oil filter, pulled one spark plug each cylinder, turned on the crankcase heater, then cranked the engine , with grounded mags, until I had oil pressure.
Good luck

If I add to the 6qt level on the dipstick, the oil lines plus the cooler and Air Wolf filter will be empty and should stay that way theoretically, until the Vern-a-therm valve opens at 180deg. So initially, is 6qts too much, just right? And in this day and age, is straight mineral oil still the way to go? The engine was run for 1hr at the Lycoming factory when new.
