A couple of years ago we heard Roswell Unicom call a Aerostar twin.  They found one of his dipsticks laying on the ramp.  He was back on the ground when we landed.  Oil was all over the left cowling.  He spent most of and hour trying to keep the engine running to get to a meeting in Houston.  Fortunately he was unsuccessful.  His wife was giving him a ration for sitting in the cockpit with 95 degree ramp temp while he cranked.  As is so often the case, it would not have been his first mistake that would have killed him.
