John and all,
I have dozens of new silver plated mini stop nuts from "the floor".  They
are similar to MS21042 nuts but are called MS21043.  They are preferable to
an esna elastic stop nut.  The external star washer serves another function;
it makes the contact by digging thru the plating to the copper base.  If the
unit uses an external star washer rather than an internal star washer try to
use it, but only once.  There is also a green paint coating I have seen
which appears to seal electrical connections such as this.  I assume it is
some type of cupric sulphate solution in a paint base.  Any knowledge here
would be helpful.  I would like to find a source for the stuff.   Be careful
when substituting a self locking nut for a plain nut.  Not only could the
threads be different but the stud may be copper plated with cad, nickel or
silver and it may not be strong enough to handle the friction torque of a
stop nut.  What ever locking device is used be sure it is new and protected
from moisture which can lead to the dreaded corrosion and high resistance.
MS21919 (?) red silicone rubber boots work well here.
I'm sure there is much more to this subject...
Walter
