It may have some wow-factor, but I don't know that you could consider it a reliable primary, for at least, and having a non-reliable backup that you use all the time may just make things confusing. That said, as a Chart/plate viewer, I think it does an excellent job. I splurged and have spent the last couple of years with both Foreflight and WingX, on both the iPad and iPhone. Foreflight kicks WingX's behind in two regards... One is that WingX's iphone app is very poor, while Foreflight's is very nice. So if you intend to use it on an iphone also, Foreflight really is the only great app between the two. The 2nd place that foreflight shines is in preflight info. It's got a much nicer interface for weather info, and is great for flight planning. I love using foreflight on the ground, and in the car, and everywhere. I have the HD Pro version with Georeferenced everythings. It's a great app. But, in flight, I'm finding that WingX is actually quite a bit nicer to use than foreflight. On WingX I also have the Georeferenced option, so I get all plates and taxi diagrams georeferenced. Even without that, it's a fantastic VFR *and* IFR chart and plate viewer. I didn't think I'd care about split screen, but after using it, it really works well and I find it pretty useful. The colors of the data blocks are sucky, but other than that, it's a great app. I did a write-up a while back...it's dated, but here are some screenshots: http://www.myrv10.com/tips/IFR/WingX/R1/index.html I love the fact that with a touch of a button you can go into Approach mode, or landing mode, and pull up the proper related taxi diagram or approach plate. It's much handier in that regard than foreflight. The georeferencing is pretty darn good, too. I bought the georeferencing option as a "lifetime" deal that they sometimes do, and I got it I think on Black Friday. Anyway, WingX offers terrain warning and all sorts of stuff like that, so I think if I had to chose just one iPad app, it would be WingX. But, I have BOTH apps on my iPad....so that's a definite option. Foreflight is more limiting in it's licensing, too. I have 2 iPads....WingX I can use on either, so the iPad I use for my kids movies is also my backup navigating iPad with WingX. That doesn't work with Foreflight...you are stuck with only 1 useable at a time. In the end, my personal plan is to: 1) continue to use foreflight, but drop the georeferenced data as soon as my subscription is up. I don't need 2 sources of georeferenced approach plates. 2) continue to use WingX as my primary in-flight chart app...especially since my georef data is a lifetime subscription. 3) continue to hope that Voyager finally comes out with an iPad app as I am sure they will, that will allow me to get all of the above with my existing lifetime voyager subscription that has been useless for me since 2010 when I adopted these great iPad apps. The only place I need it today is flying internationally.
