Some of the F-86's had gas operated chargers for their guns so that the guns could be loaded when airborne. I think that they didn't want the planes sitting on alert to have hot guns. As I recall, the system wasn't too popular. Looks like you might have a dual function cylinder there.

Of note is the date stamped on it, '6-43', so that limits the number of applications. I really
think that this is an aircraft application.
