Dunlap" : It's quite funny that I just received this SB because I just finished welding up my own new gear legs that are designed to carry the load better. I used a heavier wall tubing on the top member and stubbed in the end piece far enough to pick up the load area on both ends. This gives me a wall thickness in the loaded area of almost .250 inches. A new gear set such as this only costs about $ 50 US in 4130 materials and some shop time with a good welder. If you find the bends described in the SB then you should also inspect very carefully the outboard phenolic blocks for cracks around the edges too.... Getting the gear back where it once was is virtually impossible when removing both phenolic mounts even with proper jigging and blocking etc. When this happens then the domino effect begins as your gear geometry changes and it goes downhill from there! My plane has been down since last fall but I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I might get to fly this summer....
