I bought Bose headsets, but I had already installed insulation underneath the
floor panel which supports the pedals, so that's the only insulation now.

I recently measured the dbA at a few locations during typical cruise.
In the leg area between shins - 107 dbA   Around pilot head position - 102 to 103 dbA
Behind the head (high up near the canopy/fuselage closure) - 100dbA

Obvious conclusions;-
1. It's the engine, of course, nothing to do with air noise.
