John, I put mine on the front of the overhead (about 2" forward of where yours is).
At the time all I could find that I liked were these:

but they are not very powerful.
For your installation, these look pretty good.

but if I had it to do over again I would probably make my own using rebel 10mm squares with a wide angle 10mm lens from here: www.luxeonstar.com They will sell you everything you need.

The photo below is of my overhead panel in my IVP. The light in the middle of the air-con vents is good for nothing more than burning out now and then.
I would like it to shine forward to illuminate parts of my instrument panel at night. It would have to aim forward. Or come down and shine forward, versus straight down.
Do you guys have anything you might recommend as a replacement?
