I was recently practicing approaches and was alarmed to find a very high oil pressure reading on final (81psi).  MAP was about 15" and 2500 rpm.  Oil temp was 157.   I closed the oil cooler door and as the temperature went up the oil pressure subsided.

I flew again and carefully monitored the oil temp so it ranged between 165-185 and the oil pressure seemed to settle about 55-60 psi in all configurations, at a 135 oil temp the oil pressure was 77.  In reviewing past photos of my Chelton screens during trips I have routinely had oil pressures between 45-50 psi with 165-185 oil temps.  I now have oil pressures that are 10 psi higher (55-60psi).

I teed off of the oil pressure sender with another gauge and found the pressure sender was operating properly.  Oil temperature issues have never been a problem.  I am using Phillip X/C 20-50w oil.  In the last six months, two hoses were changed:  a turbocharger hose and a remote oil filter hose.

There is not a lot of info about high oil pressure problems.  I was hoping that someone on the list may be able to shed some light on this issue.

Thank you in advance,

Craig Gainza
