The Atlanta Journal-Constitution A small plane made an emergency landing on Ga. 400 in Dawsonville Sunday
morning. Patti Adams, a witness to the incident, said the southbound plane
landed on its belly in the intersection of Dawson Forest Road and Ga. 400,
then slid into the grassy median. Although there was traffic at the time,
there were no vehicles on Ga. 400 southbound at the time, Adams said.

"I was at the intersection, stopped at the light and just happened to look
overhead," Adams said. "It was like it just dropped out of the sky like a
bird."

The plane lost some material on impact, possibly a tire from the landing
gear, she said.

FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said there were two people aboard the
Lancair 320, a two-seat single-engined, low-winged monoplane. The pilot
reported a loss of power, she said, and set down on the highway.

"It's not uncommon for aircraft to land on roadways when they're in
distress," Bergen said. "It happens more often than people think."

The names of the pilot and passenger have not been released, but the plane
is registered to William Reister of Dunwoody. There was no flight plan
filed, Bergen said.

Because there was minimal damage and no injuries, Bergen said the landing
will probably be classified as an "incident" rather than an "accident."
