The internal = lithium battery is used to keep the clock running and data alive in the = static ram when the system is powered down. It's "supposed" to last for = 10 years. The system can be wired to use a standard 9V battery to keep it alive = during power down situations making the part last "forever" so you don't = have to re-initialize a new part.
