BTW, Matt Hapgood sent me the model number (M48TO2-200PC1) but Digi-key did not recognize it so I'm still looking. The part number is actually M48T02-200PC1 (all the round digits are zeros with a one at the end). It is a timekeeper & non-volatile memory chip with integrated battery. It is an obsolete part.
Dave Saylor has suggested the M48T02-150PC1 which is in stock at both a Digikey and Mouser for about $20. The difference between the two parts is the access speed: 200 nanosecond vs 150 nanosecond. In general, you can usually use a faster part in place of a slower part, but it is not guaranteed to work. Looking at the spec, the faster part should work as long as the processor talking to it is designed per the specifications and the designer is not cutting corners and assuming facts not in the specification.
Both DigiKey and Mouser are good places for buying small quantity electronic parts for the infrequent buyer. One difference to keep in mind is that DigiKey charges a $5 handling fees for orders under $25 while Mouser does not. Both charge you actual shipping or will ship on your account. Both will ship the same day if the order is placed before 18:00 Pacific. The cutoff time is earlier for certain shipping options. While there is a great deal of overlap, there are a lot of things that only one of the two carries. Of the things that both carry, there can sometimes be significant price differences. So check both places before you buy.
