The FAA regs require that the data plate be attached so that "it won't be lost or destroyed in an accident".  I bought my data plate from Lancair and it attaches with adhesive.  I used masking tape to outline the mounting area, scuffed with 220 grit, wiped the surface with alcohol.  6 years, so far so good.

I'm looking for a solution to permanently attach my data plate to the airframe. The surface will have paint and clear coat which means an area the size of the plate will need to be scuffed up in order for adhesive to bond correctly. Have others done it this way? How about a very thin (5mils) or so double sided adhesive tape? Rivets are really not an option.

Suggestions...
