Yes, I thought about it. I got the Lancair catalog yesterday, and looked at the price of the Continentals. At $56,000+ , the thought of two of them makes me shudder.
Add another $9,000 for a cylinder job for each in 300 to 500 hours, and you are up to some real money.
I see we have another LIV flying--the pic was in this last issue of Kitplanes. He was flying with a v-8, and mentioned his PRSU (or is that PSRU?)----well, his thingamabob disintegrated during the twelfth flight. Additionally, I see the mention of Avemco in this morning's post. It occurred to me that the insurers might be reluctant to insure LIV's with non-standard engines--particularly with a rash of thingamabobs disintegrating. Have any of you V-8 guys looked into the insurance issue?
Gees, $56+ K, and our only alternatives have their thingamabobs crapped up. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
