Monday and Tuesday of = this week, I hammered out my HPAT training for Insurance, a Biennial = Flight Review, and an Instrument Proficiency Check. =20 I worked with HPAT's Pat Franzen, who in addition to being a really nice = guy, is an expert and knowledgeable pilot and instructor. Far more = importantly, a large part of Pat's 11,000 hours of flying have been in = Lancairs. His time in Lancair aircraft is what sets him apart as a trainer and, I = believe makes HPAT very special. Guys like Pat don't just teach you to = generically fly generic airplanes. They teach you to fly Lancairs, with = all their associated instrumentation and issues. For me personally, = this is super valuable. I can do things with my avionics today that I = didn't know could be done 3 days ago. =20 In addition to airplane and systems and avionics knowledge, guys like = Pat have seen things go wrong, repeatedly, in these high tech, complex, = leading edge aircraft. We get to learn, once again, from their Lancair = specific knowledge. We can benefit from the scary things they have been = through. It's a huge benefit in my mind. =20 John Hafen N413AJ LIVP 230 hours On Jun 15, 2010, at 10:03 AM, Bill Bradburry wrote: > Kevin, > I assume that you will be getting your instrument ticket thru HPAT as = well. > You do realize that an ordinary, run of the mill, FAA certificated > instructor will not be qualified to adequately instruct you in = instrument > flying if you plan to use that training in a Lancair.
