I've been following the interesting (to me)thread on engines. I am pretty excited about the development of the diesel option. The Renault 200 hp diesel is indeed designed to run at 2200 rpm. It is now flying (see recent Kitplanes article) in Europe. No PSRU and low rpm to reduce prop noise. The last I read the GAP diesel was supposed to be flying to Oshkosh this year. It is also a low rpm unit. The third unit on the horizon is the Deltahawk V4. As with most tight budget development projects it is running behind schedule but it is running in a 150 - 200 hp form. The "final" configuration has been close for some time now but ..
The Renault is in the final stage of being certified and will be pricey--30 to 40% more that a comparable certified gas,to paraphrase the company's line. The 30 to 40% fuel savings and 3000 hour tbo will make that back pretty rapidly for high time fliers.
