I reconcile them by saying that he got into THE SPIN that scared the living daylights out of him, and after that his statement became very cautious.

Been there, done that.  Early in my student days, I can still see me standing vertical on the firewall of a Mooney and then pulling out with about 200' left above the ground.

I told the dumb shit examiner that you don't do full power stalls at 2200 AGL in a Mooney.   Well, I was right.....dumb to do it, but right.....I did get my ticket though.

The Mooney did the sweetest snap roll into an vertical spin.  I suppose if I tried to reproduce it, I couldn't......hmmmmm.   Sara, lets go fly the Mooney today!

Which brings up the subject of low power stalls in my IV.  No shaking, no nose dropping, just a flat stall that is only noticeable by seeing the VSI needle drop a thousand feet or more a minute.
