Jeff and all, Bill is quite right on this.
The Sorcerer series, the RV10 model, and newer (within the last year)
Digiflight II series do not have magnetometers. The new Digiflights have
replaced the magnetometer with much higher quality solid state gyros (the
same ones as in the much more expensive Sorcerer). They do quite well upon
loss of both the GPS and EFIS signals. As long as they have a GPS signal,
they can fly the airplane just fine. All of the models with altitude hold
have internal pressure transducers for altitude functions.
So, it is worth a call to TruTrak before you count on either version.

Hey Jeff,
Careful with the blanket statement about the internal magnetometer. The newer versions do not have that (it was unreliable in some installations), and instead do their best to simply hold the current heading if guidance from the GPS fails.
In my case the magnetometer does work ok, so I declined the "upgrade." But proximity to other equipment can make it unreliable.

I would have placed the autopilot closer to the center of the console, near my power quadrant hand, not near the pilot's side stick.
I would have known (in advance) that the TruTrak autopilot has an internal magnetometer to provide/display magnetic heading in case the GPS signal was lost (in my glass panel), and thus could have planned to use this source instead of a Directional Gyro (DG) mounted in the panel or PAI-700 compass card on top of the visor. This would free up some panel real estate.

PS Of course, I have a AI, AS and ALT as my back up instruments, but a DG would not be needed.
