There was a switch in the cockpit called "gust control". Activating the switch moved the large flaps up 4 degrees and ailerons up 10 degrees from their normal faired position. It was used to compensate for rough air to move the center of pressure forward on the high camber wing and relieve pressure on the tail, the weakest part of the plane. We flew in "faired" position at altitude.
