A sincere "thanks" all those who responded to my questions about control
cable ends and attachments- and now another question.  I ordered the "Cable
Safe" product from the Aircraft Spruce catalog (p.151), but it doesn't
appear to work with threaded rods - the end of the rod can't fit through the
bolt.  So what is the best way to secure a threaded cable where it passes
through the firewall?
