Tom, The unit i believe you are referring to is the ppa avionics fuel transfer smart switch. They were designed to work with a specific facet fuel pump. The face pump design was changed which made the smart fuel controller obsolete. I use the inexpensive float switched that spruce sells with the aforementioned smart switch. I have seen some use the float switches by themselves with a manual circuit setting and an auto fill circuit setting. I believe someone at one time posted a circuit drawing for that. One other thing you may want to consider, I too auto filled the header from 8 to 12 gallons. I sometimes pumped fuel overboard through the vent as the upper switch was too close to the top of the tank and would sometimes not shut off the pump if I was in bumps. You also get too much trim change with 3-4 gallon swings in fuel on the nose. I now use 8.5
and 10 gallons as my 2 limiters and it works much better.
Best of luck. Randy Snarr N694RS 235/320

My 360 is getting ready for some repairs that includes fixing
defective fuel gauges and recalibrating my totalizer. While I’m at it, I’d
like to add a switching device that would read the header tank level and automatically
activate the fuel transfer pumps when the header tank level drops below, say, 4
gallons and then shuts it off at a header tank reading of about 9 gallons. I saw
a 2 ¼” display for such a unit on a friend’s Lancair, but he couldn’t
recall where he got if from and doubted they were still available. Does anyone
know if they are or what other options might be available? Thanks for any
thoughts on this.
